Be grateful for how far you have come

Now, although I know how vital it is to live in the present I continue to live in the future! I had a realisation yesterday though of why it’s important to live in the present for the future.

Beliefs on money
I sat down with my friend yesterday for one of my favourite topics, What’s your money relationship? It’s a very interesting topic where you get to find out about your friends underlying beliefs about money, their parents, siblings and partners beliefs.

Now, I’ve known her for years and could have guessed some of her beliefs but also heard some that surprised me. I heard:

People that come into money always change for the worst
Money would change my character (for the worst)
I’m not meant to have lots of money
I don’t want lots of money
People would take advantage of me if I had money
If I had a lot of money I would buy lots for others but not for myself
and various others statements.

Now, I heard clear as day the negativity and lack behind those statements and also realised that not too long ago I held some of these views myself, or I would have at least been nodding in agreement with some of these statements.

We discussed these views as well as her family’s beliefs and money habits and started to look at what was behind her statements and they had been passed down. Also, these inherited beliefs also led to new beliefs such as money changing people. Now, I know not everyone wants to be rich and that’s not necessarily lack.  Also, some people need to stay poor or they lose humility and I’m not judging, it was just interesting.

Growth
During our conversation, I saw how much my thinking had moved on in the last 6 months, although recently I have been a little lack conscious in my thoughts. I had started to focus on how far I was from where I wanted to be, as opposed to enjoying the now and creating for the future, and that felt horrid. It’s a little slip that guides me deeper to know what I do want but when you’ve felt high vibrations, low vibrations just ain’t cutting it!

As we were speaking I actually felt my root chakra open, almost like a gentle pop and felt nice. During our conversation my thoughts shifted to “wow, I used to think that like and I really don’t anymore.”

Whilst focussing on what I wanted, I hadn’t focussed on what I had or the growth that I had undergone and was continuing to undergo.
I s’pose thinking about how far you have to go is a form of lack (because you’re focussed on not being there yet) and thinking of how far you’ve come to be where you are now is gratitude - a much more beneficial vibration.

I know which one I prefer.

Speak to friends and family about money and probe them on their beliefs and habits. You’ll be surprised what you find out.

Also, next time you are feeling a bit frustrated about your current situation, take a moment to reflect on how far you have come so far.  If you have come this far you are totally capable of going further, so relax, let go and trust that you are heading in the right direction and are exactly where you are supposed to be.

Love, light and abundance x x x

  1. What gives you courage?:

[...] Yep that’s me, simply getting on with it and not acknowledging the courage involved so thanks for the tag and the opportunity to stop and allow myself to admit to bravery. Let’s all start acknowledging our courage and bravery in dealing with life as well as being grateful for how far you’ve come. [...]
