Find the gratitude in everything
I noticed a trend a while ago on my journey of self-development, that I wasn’t really learning anything new just new depths of the original message. The newer depths brought me closer to the true profoundness of the lesson, which gave me added ways to practically apply these concepts to my life. It’s a cyclical process, as I’m sure that practical application will lead me to even deeper depths of these concepts, and therefore my self-development.
Depths of gratitude
Lately, I’ve been tackling gratitude and boy is there more to it than simply saying thanks. Don’t get me wrong, giving thanks is a start, I thank every morning, evening and anytime something I want manifests and yes I am definitely more grateful now. However, it was time to move it on to the next level - finding the gratitude in everything, and I mean everything. In every experience, every situation, every person etc.
To illustrate what I mean, I’ve lost a lot of money over the years through one thing or another and although it hurt at the time, I know I will be uber-successful. The lessons learned through losing the money will hopefully lead to me not repeating the same mistakes when I am uber-successful. Mistakes that in the throes of uber-success could probably cost me hundreds of thousands or even millions, compared to the tens of thousands it cost at the time. At the time though, I didn’t see the gratitude I chose to look elsewhere.
My dad beeing diagnosed with a cancer and being on the verge of kidney failure was the darkest period of my life, (I still feel a thud in my chest writing it down) but it was the best thing that could have happened to my immediate family. If it didn’t happen, would I still be bobbing along in a fairly meaningless existence? That sends a massive chill down my spine! Again, at the time I didn’t find the gratitude in that experience but it was there, I simply chose to look elsewhere.
Gratitude is a key component of law of attraction, it raises your vibration enabling you to receive what you want. Finding the gratitude in every situation could have a major effect on the level of joy in your life and therefore, your manifestations. Although challenging, it becomes easier with practise until you realise it has become your default setting and happens automatically.
How to find the gratitude in everything
Hindsight is a wonderful thing! This is one time I would recommend digging through the past. With hindsight, most people find the gratitude in past situations very easily. How many times have you said or heard:
The funny thing is if I didn’t get sacked/made redundant then I wouldn’t be in this wonderful situation
If Dave didn’t dump me, I wouldn’t have met Steve
If I hadn’t been running late I would have been in that accident
I could go on but you get my drift. So when faced with a challeging situation, delve into your past and think of a time when you felt similar and how you got over it. Notice how you feel about that past challenge too, I bet it’s not as big a deal now as it was then. This means that your current challenge will also not be a big deal one day. Find the gratitude, what could you learn about your current challenge now. Remember good can come from percieved bad.
Another way to find the gratitude in everything is to look to others. We all have someone who inspires us and has overcome a difficulty, look to them, if they can do it so can you. Sometime you may have seen this person go through their process, so you can see it’s not overnight. I do not condone copying others, find your own way but you can use other’s life experiences for your own benefit.
I’m going to steal a phrase from Bill Harris, who uses the phrase feedback instead of failure. I’ve been looking for a replacement for the “f” word for a while, I detest it as it’s so loaded. Feedback is just perfect as that is what it is after all, evaluative information that you use to go forward with improvement. Could viewing mistakes as feedback help you find the gratitude in every situation?
