What gives you courage?

I’ve been tagged by Lorraine Cohen at Powerfull Living to participate in a meme called “What gives you courage?”.  At first, I was unsure of any instances where I’d shown courage but thought there must be some as my friends always call me brave.  As Lorraine says, often our “accomplishments are mentioned casually and the person speaking fails to recognise their courage and bravery to face things and go the distance.”

Yep that’s me, simply getting on with it and not acknowledging the courage involved so thanks for the tag and the opportunity to stop and allow myself to admit to bravery.  Let’s all start acknowledging our courage and bravery in dealing with life as well as being grateful for how far you’ve come.

Wanna play? Here’s how it works:

1) Compose a new blog post describing an experience of courage.

2) At the top of the post let your readers know what you are doing and put a link back to this post.

3) Be sure to also put a link/trackback to the blogger who tagged you with the “What gives you courage” link in order to spread the link love.

4) Then let all of us know what you wrote so we can share in your success and be inspired by your story. I’ll include a master list of things that gives you all courage!

5) Encourage your readers to join the conversation by leaving a comment on your post.

6) Pick at least five other bloggers to “tag.” Ideally these are people whose answers you are truly interested in. Include a link to their blog and ask them to return the favor with a link to your site in their post.

I’m tagging:

Here’s my courageous story.

May 2005 was the peak of my realisation that my life was not working.  My father’s illness showed me that my family stability was what kept me afloat and when that broke down so did I.  I now know that I didn’t breakdown, my understanding of the world broke down and I was left in no man’s land.  I was depressed, negative and feeling like a victim of circumstance, but the whole time I was aware that I did not want to stay there.

Becoming aware that I didn’t know anything anymore, I quit my job, started Reiki training and started an internet business.  Although my spiritual development had started through the Reiki, the reading of business books deepened it.  The start of my awareness of synchronicity came about through reading Napolean Hill’s Think and Grow Rich . I read it for business purposes but recieved a lot of practical spiritual guidance from it.  My journey had begun.  The business didn’t work out, I lost loads of money and went back to employment but as a Contractor for my own peace of mind.

I’d had a taste of being self-employed and liked it a lot, I just had to figure out how I could combine self-employment with a genuine passion.  I started blogging, read a lot, listened to many seminars and was always working towards being free.

It was hard, I didn’t have clarity on how I wanted my life to be, I had to spend at least 20 hours a week doing work I couldn’t care less about and although I knew I was on my way somewhere, I didn’t know where and how!  Eventually, with a little help from my angels, I light went on in my head - I wanted to be a Life Coach.  It was perfect, it combined my loves of personal development, people, helping people to live their dream life and business.  My pre-requisites of flexibility, freedom, variety and being the authentic “me” were also met.

The final challenge came from now knowing what I wanted to do but not being aware of how it was going to happen and the largely unfulfilling work I had to do in the interm.   I found my calling in Freedom coaching and made it happen (somehow).  I could feel my dream manifesting and was hesitant in making the last jump, but in typical divine fashion, that decision was taken from me and my contract ended suddenly at just the right time and I am now fully in the Coaching world.

The real irony is that the largest amount of courage has come recently in me stepping into embracing all of me and living life on my terms by my true values.  As challenges go, it’s a great one and so much has fallen away.  I’m heading down a untrodden path and tons of courage as well as trust is required.

In a nutshell I am saying, completely transforming my life has been my most courageous act to date.  I have lost and gained a lot along the way, but I’d do it all again in a flash (but would rather not!).  My courage came from a desire to move away from the past and to step up and be honest about what I really want from life.  Also, the divine influence along the way has been breathtaking and I do position myself to be aligned with God in all I do.

As I always say “It’s one thing to believe in God, it’s another for you to allow God to work through you”.  Anything is possible then.

In love, light and abundance x x x
