Overhauling old limiting habits to transformational success-attracting habits
I’ve been tagged by my friend Lorraine Cohen at Powerfull Living to take part in the Creating Better Habits Challenge and how fabulously appropriate for this time of year. The challenge, started by Dayelle Deanna Schwartz at Lessons from a Recovering Doormat is about replacing a bad habit with a more beneficial one.
It’s very timely considering it’s the New Year, a time of new beginnings and hopes. I plan to make this the best year of my life yet so am up for replacing old limiting habits for new transformational habits that will help me to achieve what I want.
The habits that need an overhaul centre around organisation and structure for me. I am aware this relates to my fear of success and as I continue to work at overcoming the hold this fear has over me, I will commit to a new habit of working with structures and organisation.
Overhauling habits
I am an enthusistic character with under-developed time judgement skills. Also, I really enjoy what I do and grossly overestimate how much I can do in one day. When there are things for me to do, they play on my mind until they’re done, even when I am doing something else. This is an unnecessary drain on my energy and encourages procrastination.
New habit - Stay present to the task at hand
I currently work flexible hours and can get so caught up in my work that things like food just seem like a minor irritation. I often work late into the night and have been known to be on my laptop in bed. Yes, that’s right “my name is Lola Fayemi and I am a workaholic!”
New habit - Fixed working times (with optional overtime) with 1 hour for lunch.
Because I enjoy my work so much I do not schedule in as much downtime as I know I should and still do things related to my work or development in free time. I am aware that “proper” downtime will allow me more productive working time and understand that I need to have a structure to take time off too.
New habit - I am entitled to 20 days holiday a year
I currently run twice a week, however I would love to get out into nature and/or fresh air more. I work from home and drive to most places, but I do love walking. I plan to get a dog later this year, which will need walking but until then….
New habit - Increase running to 3 times a week and take 30 minute walks 3 times a week.

Daylle Deanna Schwartz:
Great addition to my Creating Better Habits Challenge Lola! Thanks for participating. I strongly relate to what you wrote. I too am a work-a-holic and regularly have my computer in bed with me–at least part of every day! I like your habit of taking 20 days a year off. Since I love my writing so much it’s hard to think about taking breaks, but I know we all need that. Thanks for making these points that will resonate with many people.
I listed your post on my site.
