Your body never lets you down

Personal growth and spiritual development can be a confusing affair. It seems as soon as you learn something new you discover an exception to the rule or even a totally contradictory view!  

For instance, in the Law of Attraction you learn about how thoughts become things, so you set about thinking positive and eliminating negative thoughts.  Then one day you stumble upon a school of thought that says you are to embrace all of you, good and bad. To add to that, when you are down to just watch your thoughts, even the negative ones.  Then you hear there are no negative or positive thoughts, that they’re just thoughts.  Woah - make your mind up! What with self-talk, intuition and saboteurs, there’s so much going on in your mind it could drive you crazy!



I jest, it’s all part of the fun and games of personal growth work, part of it’s never ending, ever expanding nature.  However, during the tough times all this information can be overwhelming and you may feel you do not have the emotional or mental strength to consciously choose the best way forward.  At times like this, always remember these words

THE BODY NEVER LETS YOU DOWN

Of all of the methods out there, I have found the most reliable to be my body, it never lets me down. We live in a world which pays a lot of attention to our bodies but the emphasis is largely on body image, the real treasures lie inside.

When you have been hijacked by fear or guilt and are not sure if it’s a limiting belief/saboteur or your intuition, tune in and see.  Your body will never lie to you but your mind can. The body is an amazing tool for being present.  Simply sitting and being in your body snaps you right back to the present. 

How to be present through your body

You can be present to your body by using deep breaths and doing a internal body scan like this: 

Find a comfortable position sitting or lying down where you will be uninterrupted for 10 minutes.

Take a few slow deep breaths and feel the air enter your body and travel downwards. 

Take your attention to your toes, get a sense of your toes.  Feel the skin and the blood flowing through your toes.

Now move your attention to the sole of your feet, then the front of your feet, then your heel all the while feeling the sensation of energythere.

Work your way all the way up your body to the top of your head, feeling the energy sensation, the skin on your body and any internal going ons. 

Move your awareness up through your ankles, shins, calves, knees, hamstrings, front of thinghs, hips, buttocks, pelvis, lower back, lower abdominals, upper abdominals, mid back, upper back, torso, shoulders, arms, hands, neck, throat, mouth, nose, ears, forehead, back of the head and the top of the head.  

By now you are probably nicely tingling/buzzing with energy.  Stay here for a while and monitor what’s happening in your body?  What can you feel and where?

Whenever you feel an alerting sensation, go into it.  Be curious about it, what is it?  What is it telling you?  If you are not sure stay with it and trun up the intensity of it.  What’s happenend now?

Do not leave the body prematurely, it is communicating with you and you are now quiet and present enough to hear what it has to say.

This exercise also counts as a meditation so light some candles, burn some incense, put on some soothing music and enjoy.

Another way the body communicates is through dis-ease.  If emotional issues are ignored for long enough they will manifest as dis-ease within the body, this usually grabs our attention! 

It’s best to not get to this stage as it is much easier to rectify the emotional issue. By the time it has manifested physically it is harder to not give attention to the pain or suffering caused by the dis-ease, but not impossible. 

Once dis-ease has manifested you can still be present to the body to help tackle the underlying emotional issue and therefore the manifestation.  Check out these 2 books for more detailed information.

Keeping your body in peak physical condition enhances your communication with it also.  Don’t be influenced by the media, but by your physical and spiritual health, when it comes to looking after your body.  Again, be still and listen your body it will tell you what it needs and always knows best.
