Inspirational Music meme

Music sheet

I was inspired to write this post by Tupelo Kenyon’s Benefits of Music for Personal Development post.  Music is an important part of my life and so is personal development; linking the 2 is a no-brainer!

Ever since I spent a month listening to Mary J. Blige’s My Life album sinking deeper and deeper into despair following on from a teenage heartbreak, I realised that music can impact your mood.  I love Mary J Blige and it was a great album but with tracks with titles such as “I never want to live without you”, “I’m going down” and “Don’t go” you can see where I’m coming from.

I got to this point where I had to switch the CD (OK, cassette) off with the realisation that it was actually depressing the life out of me.  I remember bouncing back very quickly upon this realisation, that’s how much it had been dragging me down.

Like many artists Mary tends to sing about what she’s going through and it obviously wasn’t a good time for her.  However, Tupelo makes a good point when he says “I wonder how many of them (artists) pause long enough to ask themselves if their art is a reflection of their life or if their life is a reflection of their art. What’s the cause and what’s the effect?”

Music is powerful, divine even and there are so many types out there.  Music breaks down boundaries and unites people, it stirs emotions and is an intensive channeling of creativity, one of Wayne Dyer’s faces of intention.Š

We’ve all heard at least one song that has brought us to tears stirring something deep with our souls.  So, if we know the impact of music on us why put something destructive or negative within us?

Inspirational Music meme

I have a number of songs or pieces of music I listen to for various reasons at various times.  Some uplift me, some relax me, some make me feel like a goddess, some bring out my power.  In the spirit of abundance, you can never have too many so I am starting the Inspirational Music meme as a way for my fellow bloggers and readers to share their inspirational music with everyone, in the hope of finding even more inspiration for us all.

Rules

The rules are easy.

You must write a post containing your songs of inspiration and tell us what they inspire you to do or be. Link back to this original post as well as any post that tags you (if relevant).

Tag at least 3 people to continue this meme.

If you are not a blogger, feel free to leave your inspirational songs as a comment.

I will list all of the posts here from people that participate.

My songs of inspiration

Lose Yourself - Eminem: Inspires me to action, to lose myself in the moment and make it happen. Very motivational.

Change is gonna come - Sam Cooke: When I am struggling with tenacity and need a powerful reminder that “change is gonna come”.

Forgot about Dre - Dr Dre: On the surface, not 100% positive but it works for me.  It’s all about Dr Dre’s musical success where he has a dig at haters of his success.  This is about vision for me, when this tune plays I can see myself at the end of achieving huge goals and not caring if anyone has a problem with my success.

When you believe: Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey: “There can be miracles, when you believe” need I say more?  Such talent too!

Sweet Lady: Tyrese: When I want to feel like a Goddess.

How Great Thou Art: My favourite hymn, anytime I want to boost my divine connection and be reminding of “How great Thou art”

Hark the herald angels sing: I just love this hymn at Christmas, it’s so grand and I get the real celebration of Christmas feeling from this one.

Bach’s Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desire: I love classical music but don’t know many of the names but this one, I could listen to all day!  It’s just a fabulously flowing piece of music that makes me feel grateful, blessed, comforted and divinely connected.

If you’ve spotted a trend in the last 3 it’s because I’m a Preacher’s daughter and it’s obviously had more of an effect than I thought it had!
