Living Spiritually or Just Practising?

enlightenment.jpgAs someone who fully acknowledges their spiritual side and incorporates it into their every day life, I was very interested to read Andrea Hess of Empowered Soul’s recent article Spiritual Practice vs Spiritual Growth.

In the article, Andrea questions how much your spiritual practises practically influence your physical life and how much are you actually growing spiritually? It’s very thought provoking and I suggest you check it out.

You may find it uncomfortable and if you do, great, so did I? The things that make us uncomfortable are there to help us, so go into it. I’ve often thought that it’s so easy to be spiritual in a bubble, locked away from the outside world with a lot of control over who you come into contact with but what’s the point of that? That’s not really living spiritually is it? What about when you have to venture into the outside world and mix with everyone else or, worse still (for some), your family or your spouse’s family? How much do you find you have you grown spiritually then?

Spiritual practises definitely contribute to your spiritual growth, there’s no doubt about that. Spiritual practise and self-care are more or less the same thing to me and boy do I feel it, when I slip out of it. However, you’ve also got to get out there and experience life. You are a spiritual being having a physical experience, so get out there and have your physical experience damn it! You can be spirit again when you die! Stop being so scared to make a mistake or to feel ‘negative’ emotions, there’s growth and learning in everything.

Now, I live spiritually and am very dedicated to my growth, however the article woke me up to the fact that the area of my life that causes me the most pain is also the area where I am not really living all that spiritually. I am talking a good game but my thoughts and emotions are way out of alignment. The good thing about being pregnant is that all my emotions seem to be exaggerated (yippee!) so I get to feel even more clearly what’s really going on energetically.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m under no doubt that I am growing, the evidence is clear to see in many areas of my life, but this one area sometimes feels like it’s getting worse which is confusing and why I loved it when Andrea said:

“…the more we connect to our Higher Selves, the higher our vibration rates, the more obviously any energetic misalignments will manifest themselves. Our life circumstances may actually deteriorate as we increase our spiritual “practice” if we just keep doing what we’ve always done. This, in turn, may send us running back to the comfort and safe haven of our spiritual “practice” instead of addressing the underlying issues that are calling out to be resolved. Spirituality becomes escapism.”

Ouch!

Over to you now:

  • What areas of your life have you had the most success with your spiritual growth?
  • What practises have contributed to your success?
  • How have you applied the growth from your practises to this area of your life?
  • What area or areas are causing you the most discomfort in your life right now?
  • What spiritual practises do you engage in to support this area?
  • How do you practically apply the growth from these practises to this area?
  • How don’t you practically apply the growth from these practises to this area?
  • What can you do to practically apply the growth in this area?

DO IT!

Thanks so much for writing about my article, Lola! I’m thrilled it resonated with you!

I wrote the article out of a similar observation as your own - that one area of my life was just not “working” too well, and what the heck was I doing all this spiritual development stuff for if not to create what I really want?

At the same time, tons of my clients were coming in, wanting to focus on spiritual growth, but totally reluctant to “do” anything differently in their third-dimensional lives.

I love the way life is one giant mirror. There’s some parts of the reflection where we look awfully good to ourselves, and some that still need to be addressed. But overall, the picture is always Divine and perfect.

    Blessings,
    Andrea

    Hey Andrea

It was a great article and one that I’m sure many of us need to see now and again. You’ve got to be honest with yourself BUT not hard on yourself haven’t you? And none of us have all the answers, so there’s no point in pretending I think. Plus the real fun comes from the practical application of it all not keeping it seperate from our every day lives.

We are indeed always Divine and perfect, and it’s all part of the fun we signed up to.

In peace, love and prosperity x x x

    Beautiful post Lola

I love how Andrea writes. Her posts are always inspiring and thought provoking. Her questions invite the reader to see life experiences as learning and growth opportunities. When I view my life through that lens of persception, I feel so much more empowered rather than a victim of my situation.

    Cheers,
    Lorraine

Hi Lola - I love what you said about us being spiritual beings having a physical experience. Spiritual practice doesn’t help us much if we can’t translate it to our physical existence. Thanks for the reminder!

  5. Lola:

@Lorraine - It’s ALL learning and growth isn’t it? And that’s such a great perspective to stop us from taking it all too seriously.

I love your new vid too, I love your I say Yes statements, the energy in the words are just delicious mmmmm!

@ Amanda - I don’t think we can be reminded about it enough, I know I often forget and slip into a physical being having the occassional spiritual experience! As soon as I remember who I really am, my energy expands and my world opens up. Truly a powerful statement.
